Do you want to contribute to independent media and a strong, just democratic state?

General call 2019 – 1

Do you have an initiative that stimulates independent and critical media, or one that sustains or promotes a strong, and just democratic state? Does your initiative match our pillars of truth-seeking, innovation in media, fundamental rights and liberties, vigorous democracy or commemoration and remembrance? Then you are welcome to submit a project proposal.

You can submit project proposals between Friday 21 December 2018 and Sunday 27 January 2019. It can only be submitted by registering it via our SDM portal. Read this document to find out everything you need to know about this call, regarding the criteria pertaining to the call and which themes might be prioritised. If you would like to know if your proposal is eligible for funding within our general call, you can submit an eligibility check via this page. The programme team aims to answer within 2 weeks. Eligibility checks submitted after Sunday 20 January 2019 cannot be answered before the call closes.  This means that if you haven’t received an answer shortly before the deadline of the call for proposals, you should not wait and submit your proposal.

Special theme:
For this call for proposals the Democracy and Media Foundation will also prioritize projects that address the European and Dutch Provincial elections in May 2019. Within this theme we will prioritize projects that:

– encourage groups of voters that (demonstrably) fall behind when it comes to election turnout, to go vote – as for instance young people.
– aim to elevate the quality of the public debate regarding themes that align with the foundation’s priorities, amoung which transparency and accountability, antidiscrimination and digital privacy.

Other ideas that further the objectives of our pillars and priorities during the election period are welcome as well. Initiatives with primarily (party) political or religious objectives are not admissible.

Note that institutional funding cannot be applied for through our calls for proposals.

The process goes as follows:
