Media innovation Critical and independent media are essential to maintain the watchdog role the media has in the constitutional state. Due to technological developments and a changed journalistic landscape, media innovation is not only possible, it is also necessary. To protect and promote quality and independence in journalism, the Democracy and Media Foundation supports initiatives that focus on the new dynamics of power in the media landscape, develop innovative revenue models, or deliver new ways of journalism. Within the pillar media innovation the Democracy and Media Foundation prioritizes initiatives that: develop innovative business and distribution models that serve media organizations in their quest for truth and checking those in power; search for answers to new power dynamics in the media landscape; use innovative journalistic approaches to interest an audience in stories which meet the objectives, mission, pillars and priorities of the Democracy and Media Foundation (e.g. constructive journalism, narrative journalism).
